Frequently Asked Questions

Equine Assisted Therapy provides the opportunity to come alongside one or more members of the herd in order to support the therapeutic process. We continue to work from our evidence based practices with the additional benefits of engaging in this unique relationship.

The horses contribute to the process in a multitude of ways, including through co-regulation, modelling authenticity and providing opportunities for a unique relational experience for clients.

All of the time we spend with the horses in on the ground and predominantly at liberty. No previous experience with horses is required

Ecotherapy or nature based therapy involves intentionally engaging with the natural environment. Spending time outdoors is brings a host of physical and psychological benefits directly influencing mental health and well-being. Currently, most therapeutic approaches typically occur indoors, however ecotherapy sessions are  held outdoors in a wide variety of contexts. This approach can reduce stress, enhance mood, increase mindfulness, and foster a deeper connection with nature and ourselves and ultimately supporting improved therapeutic outcomes.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic and adverse experiences which continue to impact on daily life. EMDR has a strong evidence base for the treatment of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health presentations.  At Valley Psychology, we offer Equine Assisted EMDR, Nature Based EMDR, and Room Based EMDR in both individual and group settings to accommodate individual preferences and needs. For more detailed information about EMDR head to this LINK.
